The criteria for Round 7 is now CLOSED

Round 7 of the UK Games Fund is different to past rounds, please read all following information carefully. Successful applicants are eligible for grant support of up to £25,000.

The following information is supplied for reference only.

If you have been funded previously, we won’t fund your project here with continuation funds. If you are seeking funding for a new project you will need to present strong evidence of impact from the previous award made.

How it will work

From mid-May, established companies with a project that is already underway can apply for grants of up to £25,000. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in August, and funded development work can start from September. Completed Expressions of Interest will be screened for eligibility for Round 7, with those who meet the criteria invited to complete a full application.

The level of competition for our grants is generally very high, due to the large volume of good quality applications that we receive.

Who should apply

For the best chance of success, we suggest the following as a baseline for applicants to this round:

  • You should have completed some early concept work, and have either a proof-of-concept demo or other visual pre-production work, so that you can show your project in the best light with your pitch video.
  • You should have a clear idea of what your unique selling point or other market differentiator is – being able to communicate this clearly will help build confidence in your project.
  • You should have a development team either in place, or who are ready to come on board quickly if you are successful – being able to describe the specific qualities of your team helps to prove your overall development capability.
  • Your team should have some past experience of completing and shipping a project, regardless of the level of success – this doesn’t have to apply to every team member, but past experience has been shown to help broadly in understanding your go-to-market needs.
  • You should have done your research and have a clear idea of what the next steps are beyond the grant – who you will approach to fund the remainder of the project, how you will handle publishing, etc.
  • You should be able to describe the future of your business, how the grant will provide a positive impact on your sustainability and growth as a studio, and what your vision is beyond this individual project.

Expression of Interest

We’re sorry, but the Expression of Interest submissions for Round 7 are now CLOSED.

Round 8

Round 8 – opening later in the year – will help new companies and applicants with early-stage projects.

Successful applicants will be provided with an initial grant of £6,000 in funding to refine and improve pitching skills, whilst also developing a prototype or demo of your project. After the three-month funded development period, we aim to provide networking opportunities via access to an event in 2022.

A further chance to pitch directly to the UK Games Fund will also be provided, where successful teams can secure an additional grant of up to £19,000. These additional grants will be allocated from April 2022*.

This approach has proven very effective for early-stage projects in previous years.

Further details will be released closer to the application open period. Interested parties are advised to sign up to our mailing list to get the latest updates.

*Subject to continued programme funding.
