Funded company Tag Games, based in Dundee and from the early rounds of the UK Games Fund, recently announced an acquisition deal with American mobile game maker Scopely.

Tag Games, the creator of over 60 titles with a wide range of publishers, is based in Dundee and has been a key part of the regional hub’s game development ecosystem since 2006.

Scopely had previously invested in the company alongside Spain’s Omnidrone and UK-based Pixel Toys pumping in $50million to increase staff and premises.

Marc Williamson, Head of Studio at Tag Games, said,

“The UK Games Fund played a pivotal role on our journey towards continued growth over recent years. That early vote of confidence in what we do from the UK Games Fund undoubtedly had a positive ripple effect across the entire organisation. That confidence helped us build the organisation it is today and allowed us to proudly join the amazing game’s creators at Scopely for the next part of our adventure”

The news follows the recent announcement about the Government’s Creative Sector Review with the allocation of a further £5m to UK Games Talent and Finance, allowing the UK Games Fund to provide targeted support to UK games companies to reach their full potential, developing new IP so that companies can secure other finance and grow.

Commenting on the deal, Scopely said,

“We are excited to announce the addition of Tag Games to our Scopely ecosystem! One of our ongoing objectives at Scopely is to explore acquisition opportunities to bring additional best-in-class teams into our operating system, and the talent at Tag Games is perfectly aligned with this ambition.
