Funded company Sensible Object yesterday announced that they had been acquired by Niantic, Inc. (the minds behind Ingress, Pokémon GO, and forthcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite), and will continue as Niantic London.
Selected for UK Games Fund support back in 2015 in our first round of funding, Sensible Object have worked tirelessly to build their community and work with pioneering new forms of augmented reality. Now as Niantic London, the team will continue to grow and flourish as leaders in the AI games market.
Head of Studio at Niantic London Alex Fleetwood said:
“Sensible Object wouldn’t have reached this exciting point without the support of the games community, investors, and funders like UK Games Fund. UKGF’s timely support helped us make critical progress, unlocking further investment and getting to the crucial point of our first shipped game. It’s a vital part of the UK’s funding ecosystem for early stage games companies”
Sensible Object were selected for support for their project Beasts of Balance, a game described as “Jenga meets Pokémon”. Other projects from the studio include the use of Voice AI on the Alexa platform.
Kirsty Gibson, Head of Community at UK Games Fund, said:
“Sensible Object have been a committed member of our funded community, hosting a ministerial visit back in 2016 to announce the launch of our third round of funding.
Their hard work and community building have validated their status as a leading indie studio developing innovative and exciting own-IP games. Now as Niantic London the team will take their pioneering vision for the future of play to a new level. We’re excited to see what the future holds.”
