Publisher Private Division has acquired funded company, Roll7, in what will be a debut acquisition for the firm.
Based in London, Roll7 was selected for grant support from the UK Games Fund back in 2015. Since then, the studio has worked tirelessly on the growth and strength of its own IP series. The BAFTA award-winning studio was founded in 2008, and is currently working on the upcoming OlliOlli World, set to release in December.
The deal with Roll7 is the first acquisition for Private Division.
Private Division EVP Michael Worosz said:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Roll7 to the Private Division family. As a team passionate about action sports ourselves, seeing how Roll7 combines the thrill of competition with the zen of achieving flow-state in a video game is remarkable, and we can’t wait to show the world this phenomenon with our release of OlliOlli World this winter.”
Roll7’s UKGF-funded project, Laser League, is light-speed, arcade multiplayer like no other. Released in 2018 in partnership with 505 Games, the game is available across multiple platforms with a highly positive community of players.
Speaking of the impact of support from the UK Games Fund, co-CEO Simon Bennett said:
“The UKGF funding that we received in 2015 to prototype Laser League was a crucial stepping stone for the studio, and paved the way for sustainable growth over the past six years. Now that we are part of the Private Division and Take Two family, the team is amped to set our sights further with our most ambitious projects ever.”
Paul Durrant, Founder at UK Games Fund, said:
“We first supported Roll7 in the early days via our predecessor project in 2011 so it’s been great to witness the journey they’ve been on over the past ten years. Simon and the team are highly original thinkers that have always had a fresh approach to IP development and running a studio and it’s great to see those qualities pay off for them with this deal.”
