First funded as part of Round 3 of the Prototype Fund in 2016 for The DRG Initiative, Third Kind Games has grown to over 70 staff, with recent news of an acquisition deal from Virtuos.
Founded by a group of nine highly experienced AAA games developers in Leamington Spa, Third Kind Games works with some of the biggest names in the games industry on numerous critically acclaimed game titles.
Co-development of these well-known titles has been supported by their funding from the UK Games Fund.
Tim Dunn from Third Kind Games said:
“The support we received from UKGF for the ‘DRG Initiative’ was instrumental to Third Kind Games in our formative years, helping us to lay the groundwork that defined our journey to the AAA co-development studio that we are today.”
Earlier this year, the team at Third Kind Games were approved for Content Fund grant support for an unannounced open-world, Action Sports game.
Content Fund support for this title helps to unlock more potential at a vital stage of development and enables the team to set their ambitions even higher with the support of UKGF.
Co-funding support from an innovative games publisher with the backing of a well-known and highly respected games industry veteran, the game being worked on has authenticity at its heart with the involvement of a professional athlete at its inception.
Kirsty Gibson, Head of Impact at UKGF, said:
“The recent announcement of the acquisition deal with Virtuos includes the stated ambition to double the headcount of Third Kind within two years. A growing UK-based studio is a boon to our portfolio, and we are delighted to have supported the team back in the early days in their founding own-IP development as well as the latest exciting title.”
More news of the upcoming Action Sports title will be shared when available. Follow Third Kind Games for the latest updates.
