Round 1 funded company, Ruffian Games, has been acquired by the company behind the Grand Theft Auto titles, Take Two Interactive.
Based in Dundee, Ruffian Games is now known as Rockstar Dundee.
Ruffian applied to and was selected for the first round of support from the UK Games Fund back in 2015 for their game Fragmental, “an intense couch-play, multiplayer twin-stick shooter with some of the fastest and most frantic gameplay around.”
Most recently in 2019 at the UK Games Fund Awards at the V&A Dundee Ruffian Games showcased their VR game, RADtv, with company director Billy Thomson seen here demonstrating the game.
Paul Durrant, Director at UK Games Fund, said:
“Once again the talent that resides in our funded community has been recognised with a major acquisition and we heartily congratulate Billy and Gaz at Ruffian for their achievements. This is a good news story for Scotland and Dundee also, and reinforces the significance of the cluster that hosts UKGTF, enabling us to serve the nations and regions of the UK effectively, from one of the UK’s hotspots.”
